We are tried and true pet-owners. In fact, the very origin of our treats is from our quest to make our own pets’ life better and healthier
In early 2024 I had heard enough to make me start to do some heavy research into pet nutrition. Reading books written by veterinarians, blog posts from vet nutritionists, reddit posts from people who had switched to homemade with great success, etc.
What I learned was incredible. Many commercial foods are, while “technically” nutritionally complete, are just highly processed mixes of byproducts of the meat industry (see chicken byproduct, or animal byproduct on the back of dog food bags) and tons of carbohydrates. Of course they add in a few other ingredients to the recipe but that recipe is then cooked, usually multiple times, to the point where it is mostly devoid of any original nutrition and then has that nutrition artificially added back to the food using many artificial sources.
All of this research also came with plenty of recipes which, of course, I began using to try to add some healthy additions to my dog’s bowls. I was down a rabbit hole at this point. More research, more recipes, more cooking techniques used for my dogs’ benefit.
After 6 months of this pattern I had finally switched my 2 dogs to only homemade food and treats. That summer our dogs went in for their annual checkups and the vet was STUNNED.
Both dogs had finally lost a little weight and were under that 100 pound mark. Not long after both dogs were down to roughly 80 pounds each, with Bowie confirmed losing almost 25 pounds in a little less than a year.
Both my dogs had reduced plaque on their teeth.
Both Bowie and Peanut had healthier and cleaner fur.
Bowie’s heart murmur had become undetectable, something we didn’t even know was possible.
After seeing amazing progress, I started giving samples of treats and food to family and friends just to spread the word about what I’d learned.
It was a hit with every single pet, to the point that pet parents started saying things like “you should sell these” or “I would buy these for my pet” so I decided to go for it, researched how to create a pet treat business and filed all the necessary paperwork.
Early 2025 I officially started the business, got the recipes lab tested for guaranteed analysis and created labels, logos, and promo items and started signing up for vending opportunities at events, especially those focused on pets. Our first event was the first weekend of April 2025 and have been doing them nearly every weekend since.
